Paul Rameau is named after my father and originates from the memories I have of him as I consistently reflect on the joy he found in his creative aspirations. His life embodied a unique style of artistry, originality, and spirituality that was showcased through his enjoyment of painting, carpentry, and music. I remember him as the man who always wore a pair of trousers and a button up as if he were ready for a day out in the town. In reality, he was always well dressed whether he was spending quality time playing our piano or building a bench just for the fun of it. My father, Paul Rameau, was my definition of a renaissance man.
In 2016, Paul Rameau fell terminally ill and passed away due to Multiple Myeloma, cancer that is formed in the plasma cell (a type of white blood cell). It was the strength he possessed and portrayed during his worst times that speak to the remarkable man he was. Before he passed, my father found the strength to continue doing what he was passionate about once more. During his most trying year, as he was in and out of chemotherapy; my father and my cousin built a shelf as long as their garage wall for my mother. My father lived out his renaissance once more that summer as the creative man he was always known to be.
I started Paul Rameau because I wanted to honor my father’s life. Through the pain I felt from his passing, I realized there was untapped potential I had to discover and it was connected to the creative nature I have always neglected yet always instilled in me and inspired by my father. As I continue my journey of uncovering my love for fashion and business, I want to encourage others to take the risk in unlocking their full potential and refuse to neglect the journey of meeting their best selves. To my father, Paul Rameau, this is the continuation of your legacy and rebirth of mine.
